Myrtle's Meanderings - Fall Leaves Tour - October 6, 2010
Regardless of the rain, we had a good day. There was a good response - besides the bus, driven by Don Cram, there were three vans driven by Debbie, Jeff and Alec, 27 people eager to see the leaves.
We went up the 8th Line, past the Mill of Kintail, then past Fulton's Sugar Bush - lots of maples and sumac. The leaves were not a brilliant red - more of a bronze colour. Nevertheless, we did see some gorgeous stands of trees.
We went through White Lake, then stopped at the Lookout ad McLdoe's Building Supplies. The view is spectacular. Looking straight ahead there were huge rock cliffs, then to the right, was a beautiful view of the Madawaska River.
We drove slowly over the bridge to Burnstown se we could enjoy the river view once more.
Leaving Burnstown we went ahead to the McLaren Apple Orchard where we went in to admire all the apples. Some purchased apples, some apple cider. Then, back to our transportation, and back to White Lake by way of the Stewartsville Dam. This is a huge dam which has flooded a large area.
Back to the White Lake Restaurant where we really enjoyed a hearty lunch - we were quite hungry by then.
When we came out of the restaurant, the rain had stopped, so Jeff took us for a walk down to White Lake shore by the T Bill cottages. The air was fresh and cool se we enjoyed the walk. Then we posed for a group picture.
As we came out from the village we saw a field with a lovely flock of sheep.
It rained again all the way home. However we were unanimous that it had been a rewarding day.
